From John Phillips:
I was sorry to hear about Brian’s passing but I have to say that he did not look at all well when last I saw him….. I hope he was not allowed to suffer much through his illness….
As you will know from Peter passing on my email, I will not be able to attend his funeral but I would like to tell you a bit about your Dad and I……
Brian was my first ever boss when I arrived from the UK in December 1970 and I owe him a lot. He was very patient with me and I benefited hugely from his mentoring during my early years with OTC. I remember one time after he had set me an urgent written task ( a critique of something I think..) which I just couldn’t wrap my brain around. I worried at it all afternoon and was still re-working it well into the night and still it was a dog’s breakfast. I didn’t sleep much that night and went into Brian’s office the next morning very shame-faced and apologetic….. “No worries” says Brian, “let’s see what we can do together…” and ten minutes later the job was finished! Great first lesson – when stuck seek help!
We remained friends long after I left his immediate work area and he was always there to offer wise thoughts on almost any subject under the sun.
I shall miss running into him at various OTC get-togethers, and my condolences go out to you and all his family. May he rest in peace.
