From Anne Kampus (Ulo’s Daughter):
I am writing to advise that Ulo Kampus has passed away on 19 January 2014.
The funeral will be held at Rookwood Crematorium, South Chapel, on Friday 24 January at 1.30pm. Anyone that knew him from OTC is welcome.
The family would be most grateful if his friends from OTC could help to celebrate his life at the funeral service.
Dad suffered a brain aneurysm in December – his fourth stroke in about 10 years. Unfortunately he didn’t recover this time and passed away peacefully while in a nursing home in his sleep.
He had been in Prince of Wales hospital for a month, before we had to transfer him to the Castellorizian Aged Care Facility, where he was or only 6 days before he passed away.
Attached are two recent photos from when he was still healthy.
Yes, I am one of those people who have great memories of Ulo in the OTC Drawing Office in Martin Pace and other buildings OTC migrated to until reaching Elizabeth Street. Ulo was the quiet man of the Drawing Office. I would have met Ulo for the first time in 1968 and was taken by his calmness and quietly spoken manner from the beginning. He was not a man who would argue but just got on with his job with little fuss even if some of the demands placed on him by his “customers” may have been somewhat frustrating. He was a gentle man who did not strive to impress but impressed by his professional approach to his work. His is a skill sadly lost.
I remember Ulo – a good solid operator in the Eng Branch Drawing office … I cant make Friday but you now will have me thinking of him and relaying his passing to others.
