The below has been supplied by Vernon Yen:

I received the very sad news a few days ago that our dear colleague, Roy Ayton, passed away on the 27th October, 2011 after a long illness.

Roy came to OTC(A) Marketing from the Motor Industry (Ford) around the late70s/early 80s.

His wife Barbara still resides at their Pymble NSW home. I spoke with Barbara this afternoon and she appears to be holding up well though Christmas was a bit “strange”.

I would be grateful if you would post this for the benefit of his former colleagues and friends.

Kind Regards

Vernon

John Bennett has sent this tribute to his wife, Libby:

Dear treasured friends,

On Christmas Day our beautiful Libby passed away peacefully in the presence of John, Lara and Christy.

We held herhands and sang to her as she gracefully went on her way.

She will be deeply missed and brought so much joy, happiness and love to all our lives.

She may have left us in body – but her amazing, courageous spirit will be with us in our hearts forever.

We know how much Libby appreciated the friendship and support of her friends and family, especially over the past few years.

We would like to collect favourite memories and pictures of Libby for her farewell if you would like to email them to us– and will keep you posted in the coming week about the details. Thankyou for your love and support,

 John, Lara & Christy Bennett

Message from Don Charles:

Just thought you OTC guys, I have in my address book, might be interested, last saw cuddly Kevan (not in my time) over at Olympics in Sydney were he was a trackside official. Went with him on one of our coinciding days off to show him a bit of Sydney, was his first visit to Sydney I think.

Then maybe it was the time I was travelling on an esculater in David Jones Karrinyup, going up and Santa was on the down set, in full uniform, the next thing I knew Santa was attempting to go up on the down, taking great strides and yelling “Charlsie how ya going” as he attempted to overcome the downward movement to meet me at the top. Think he was on a lunch break or somesuch. Caused a few heads to turn.

Seems Hookie must have mellowed over time, very sad way to end it all though.

Alf Ricketts – May He Rest In Peace

Alf Ricketts passed away last night in hospital at 76 years young.

Alf underwent an emergency operation to address fluid in his lung that was applying pressure on his heart. He appeared to be recovering from the operation but then complications set in that resulted in his passing.

Alf had a bad heart over the past 17 years for which he had received multiple operations and several pace makers.

His wife, Marjorie, wanted his friends a colleagues to be made aware of his passing. She told me that Alf had always referred to OTC as his family and he often talked fondly and enthusiastically about his friends from the OTC days. He had been looking forward to catching up with Keith McCredden and Geoff Day next week.

Marjorie expects that the funeral will be next week. I have asked her to keep me informed so that I can let his OTC family know.

Mesage from Paul Horder

So much has changed but then so many years have passed since I first visited Ceduna!

I cannot believe I did the HSC 40 years ago. It was strange standing at the earth station and realising my last visit was at the start of my working life. It was sad to see the station locked up and the dish stowed. The lady at the tourist office told me that the cleaners went out once a week and no one else ever visited the site.

The town is well kept and appears prosperous. The foreshore, business area and main roads have been recently landscaped. The Community Hotel has been demolished and replaced by the up-market Ceduna Foreshore Hotel with building work in the final stages. Their motel units are the same as when I stayed there though the street in front of the units is now a secure car park.

Some current photos of the station and town can be found at: http://www.flickr.com/photos/11171740@N03/sets/72157627949678222/

Some 1974 photos can be found at: http://www.flickr.com/photos/11171740@N03/sets/72157628018303446/

Below is the floor plan of Ceduna 1. I found it on the web. It is from a University document on how to operate the site whilst living there. (Double click on the below image with your mouse to see all of the floor plan)
