Mick Callaghan relayed to me the sad news of Ed’s passing over the weekend.

Ed’s wife, Anne Marie, phoned Mick to advise that Ed has passed after a collision of his ultra-light aircraft that he has built. Ed had been flying ultra-lights for many years. The accident is covered on page 4 of today’s Daily Telegraph.

I worked with Ed in the early 1980s in the ITMC and INMC sections at the Paddington Terminal building. After leaving those sections he worked with Anthony Kalcina and Mick Callaghan in a software development area to support the operation of the telecommunications network operated by OTC.

Ed was a happy go lucky and likeable chap who had a lot to offer to OTC and its staff from a technical and talent perspective.

I have asked Mick to pass on the sincere condolences of the members of the OTVA.

That is sad news. I also recall working with Ed in the INMC and ITMC. We occasionally carpooled to work. Even in those days he had a keen interest in flight with remote control aircraft. He was a smart bloke.

    Condolences to his family.

Edward (Eddie) Martin Seve. [Extract from OTVA Newsletter of August 2017]

I joined OTC in 1979 as part of a trainee intake of 12 new employees.
Most of my time was spent at Paddington helping out with the installation of the then shiny new AKE and learning to drink beer with the guys from Engineering Branch, with short stints at Broadway.

After completing my traineeship I was lucky enough to be offered a position in the ITMC at Paddington which also involved duties in the INMC.

During this period I started maintaining the Circuit Records system which was designed by Mick Callaghan and others and occupied some spare memory in on one of the Ericsson processors in the INMC. Eventually after some coercing from Tony Kalcina (a then up and coming Engineer) by Mick and few others, we managed to obtain permission to buy an old Micro Vax running Unix and an Oracle database on which Mick Callaghan, Dave Grant and I built OTC’s first relational inventory management system, the results of which were so well received that within 1 year an entire new department was created.

My last Job in OTC was as an STO2

After 16 years with OTC a new opportunity to join Tony Kalcina working on a Green Fields startup telecommunications company in Malaysia presented itself. The company, Time Quantum Technology, was part of the Time group of Malaysian companies. It was with much angst that I tendered my resignation and moved to Kuala Lumpur for 2 years. A few years later, 1997, the onset of the Asian Financial Crisis forced us back to Australia to reform into what became known as Clarity international Pty Ltd, this next ride lasted for just over 18 years and had us travelling the world delivering our solutions into some of the major Telecommunication providers in Asia, USA and Eastern Europe. Sadly after several owner/management changes, the company finally declared bankruptcy in October 2013.

This presented me with my first real job crisis which lasted for 7 months before I joined Synchronoss, an American company that was hoping to relaunch Clarity under their own banner. Two years later I was made redundant as jobs moved offshore to India and the Philippines. However, this time a new opportunity presented itself the very next day with an American OSS company called Netcracker.

One year on I’m still working for Netcracker and life is pretty good.

I obtained my pilots licence in 1997 and have built 3 aircraft, the first was a little Bi-Plane followed a few years later by a 2 seat low wing touring aircraft which enabled my wife, Anne-Marie, and I to see a lot of North Western Australia. The lure of aerobatic flight captured my imagination about 8 years ago and inspired me to build my latest aircraft called a VANs RV7. It’s a 2 seat, side by side seating, aerobatic tourer capable of cruising at 330kmph. I have now added a formation endorsement and am currently out practicing with 3 other mates most weekends and having a ball.
